Zone Swimming Sports

South West Zone Swimming Championships

Today 18 students, Mr Forman and Mr Hillary, and our wonderful parents went to Wharenui Pool for the South West Zone Swimming Championships.

Students competed against their same age peers from 10 other schools. Students were competing for the chance to go to the Canterbury Primary Schools Swimming Championships.

All Oaklands students gave their all and can be very proud of their efforts.

We had some outstanding results, with the following students placing in the top 3 in their respective age and discipline.

Zone Swimming Sports Trials

Oaklands zone team trials -  Thursday, March 7th
South West Zone Swim Sports - Tuesday, March 12th
Oaklands Swim Fun Day @ Jellie Park -Wednesday, March 13th

As you can see, the South West Zone swimming sports at Wharenui Pool are held on the day before our school swim fun day.

Therefore, we are taking a group of students to Jellie Park this Thursday in order to conduct trials. The students attending can choose from freestyle, backstroke,  breaststroke and butterfly. All events are 50m - two lengths of Jellie Park.

A mauve colour information and permission form went home last week. They are due TUESDAY, 5 MARCH.

Students will travel by bus, departing at 9:00am. We have the pool booked from 9:45 - 12:15, and the bus will be outside at 12:30 for the ride back to school.

Students participating need to bring their morning tea. As they will be expending quite a bit of energy, students might like to bring along more than their usual morning tea fix.

NB. Students can enter in as many events for their age group as they like
The butterfly is an OPEN event, meaning their will be a boys' race and a girls' race.
Most events will be straight finals unless numbers dictate heats and a final.

We will follow the rules as set down in the Primary Sport Canterbury handbook.
We will go over these rules CLEARLY with students prior to beginning the trials.
