Touch rugby double

Touch rugby seems to bring out the best in sibling comptitiveness, and we have another example for you.

Recently we brought to your attention the Woodgate 3 -  Samantha, Brayden and Carter, who received player of the day awards on the same day.

Well, not to be outdone, the Hillyer sisters (Courtney- Rm 5 and Mackenzie - Rm 23) both received player of the day certificates for their respective teams on the same day. Courtney and Mackenzie are active in a number of sports and we look forward to them both representing the school to showcase their talents.

Here they are, all smiles.

Trampoline success

Our athletes have a wide range of skills and interests. Today we celebrate the amazing Courtney Hillyer of Room 5.

During the first week of the October school holidays Courtney Hillyer of Rm5 was part of the Canterbury Trampoline team who went to Nationals held in Napier.  She competed in all 3 disciplines and had exceptional results considering it was the first year she was eligible and was one of the youngest in the whole competition.  She was placed 4th= out of 19 in the 10 and under girls individual trampoline, 7th out of 17 in the 10 and under girls double mini trampoline and with her partner came  4th out of 8 pairs in the 10 and under synchronised trampoline.

Way to go, Courtney. Another example of Oaklands students achieving in the world of sport.

Touch Rugby Triple

At last Friday's touch competition something amazing happened. Player of the Day certificates were handed out for each of the Oaklands teams. Nothing amazing about that, you say. True. But what if I said that 3 members of one family each received a Player of the Day. Now that is amazing.

And we have proof. Here are the awesome Brayden, Samantha and Carter Woodgate.

Well done, team Woodgate. Great kids doing great things in sport.

Saturday 2 November 2013

Awesome athletes

This week we celebrate two young tee-ball players. Ben Hanson and Dylan Creighton play for Halswell and received awards recently.

Ben received the Player of the Day and Dylan the Hardest Trier.

Well done, boys. Another example of Oaklands students being successful in sport.

Touch Rugby Draw for Friday 25th

Kia Ora all

Please click on the link to view the draw.

The under 7 Red Knights are actually the Oaklands Raiders (Oak Raiders). This is your team name from now on.

The Under 9 EAGLES are not down on the draw and have a bye this week. However there is a field available for you to have a practice. It would be a great idea to have a run around.

Playing tops

I will issue some sets tomorrow for the older students. When the new ones arrive the little ones will be kitted out. I will bring down some coloured mesh bibs for the Oaklands teams that are playing each other. For example the under 7 Sharks and Storm play each other and the Under 11 Undefeatables and Chiefs play each other.

Balls

I will being down some balls tomorrow. They will be named (Oakands School) and need to be returned to me after your game. The organisers will supply new teams with a touch ball soonish.

We are going ahead with the athletics today. Students should come prepared for a day of athletics. It is a wee bit wet on the field but this will dry off at some stage. We may not start exactly at 9:00am. Any further information can be accessed by ringing the school, or text me at 027 220 1077.

Kauri Athletics

The weather doesn't look too good at the moment, but we are doing a sunshine dance in anticipation of a fine day.

Given the current wet weather, the following applies:

[1] The organisers (Grant and Danny) will meet early tomorrow morning (6:30am).

*    If it has continued to rain overnight and the forecast is for rain throughout the day - we will make the decision to postpone the event to FRIDAY.

* If the rain has stopped and it looks to be clearing up and the forecast is for sun, we will make a decision as to whether we will begin a little later eg 10:00am.

[2] Any decision will be put on this blog by 7:45am

[3] We will then endeavour to place a message on the school answer phone system, once we learn how to do it.

Please don't assume that it will be off if it is a little wet. Unless notified students should come prepared for a day of athletics.

Cheers
Grant

Kia Ora all

Click on the link below to view the most up to date version of the team lists for touch rugby.

Presently there are 15 teams. We still need to fill a few spaces, with girls in the under 7 section, but I reckon we will get there.

The team lists are not set in stone as there may be some changes, as I have no doubt made some errors / omissions etc.

More information will come out soon regarding the first game, payment of the $20 etc.

Cheers
Grant

Touch Rugby

Kia Ora all

Today we handed out the permission forms for touch rugby.

It is highly possible that some students picked up the incorrect colour or forgot to take one, or even missed out as not enough were printed.

If any of these are true for you, no problem, more will be available tomorrow.

The box for returns is in the OFFICE. Please don't bring them to Room 5. However, if you have a question then feel free to drop in to Room 5.

Wednesday and Thursday will be collection days.
Friday I will begin putting the existing teams back together, then get onto the new students next week.

Given the large number of interested students please bear with me throughout the process. I will try and meet everyone's needs.

Cheers
Grant

Sunday 15 September 2013

Monday 16th September

Kia Ora all

Today we had the first meeting for students interested in playing touch for an Oaklands team this year. We filled up the music room, and there seemed to be as many who didn't play in an Oaklands team last year as there were players from last year; which is fantastic.

Two versions of the permission slips will be used; one for NEW players and one for LAST YEAR'S players.
These will come home tomorrow, hopefully.

They can also be viewed on the TOUCH RUGBY at HALSWELL DOMAIN page at the top of the blog.

We are on the lookout for MANAGERS to help with teams. The teams from last year will carry on, with some changes in players and managers, but that is easy to sort out.
The new players and teams will be a different story.

Basically, if you offer to manage a team on Friday, we will build a team around your child.

This process will take until the end of the term, so please bare with me. I will communicate through this blog, plus send out emails.

Please email me at       grant.forman@oaklands.school.nz           if you have any questions.

Cheers
Grant

Well done to the awesome Year 7/8 basketball team – The OAKLAND HEAT on winning their Monday night competition at Pioneer Stadium.

Every Monday morning they have been practicing before school on the courts, and every Monday evening they have been dribbling, passing and shooting their way to top spot.

Another fantastic basketball season for Oaklands. Another talented group of students out there representing Oaklands with pride.

Nice one, team.

Winter Tournament

The South West Zone Winter Tournament takes place next WEDNESDAY 14th August. Students will depart around 11:15am for a 12:15 start for most teams. Teams play a round robin system of short matches. Teams earn points based on a win, lose or draw. The team with the most points at the end of the matches is the winner.

Oaklands is entering teams in the following levels and sports:

Year  5 / 6  - Soccer, netball and hockey
Year 7 / 8 - Soccer, netball and hockey

These are the 'A' teams, although for some teams we are restricted in the squad size, so some in the team will miss out.

The overall winner of each sport at each year level earns the right to represent the South West Zone at the Primary School Winter Tournament.

Please note that there is limited parking available near Hagley Park, with much of the area near the soccer grounds reserved for buses.
